I’m a 52 year old , no-talent, ego with feet ( AKA “a singer”) Took up the harp a few months back.. Been listening to a lot of Juzzies’ stuff…so glad I found your channel bro. !

It's been 10 years since I stumbled on UA-cam and found out I wasn't as good as I thought. I just never seen any harp players I person that bent notes. Or really kistened to anh good blues. I thought I was special lol. Turns out everyone could bend and on most notes. Then a little while later I found out guys were blow bending. Well then I realized I was average but knew how to hit the solo at open mics. But since UA-cam I learned intonation and probably why I kept killing the 4 hole on all my harps. And I definitely think it helped me I picked up a harp and played to the radio in first position with just a c harp. On my way to work is how I learned. Once in a while I'd have a friend say I saw you driving the highway playing harp. Well anyways I'm a lot better now and I'm still am average but can follow a guitar solo with the best of the local talent. Anyways I wanted to say thanks fir the videos over the years. I'd learned the draw, draw blow ascending pattern from a Skype Lesson with Ronnie Shellist some years ago but never found a use for it. Recently, for no particular reason, I got my arse into gear and learned the pattern in reverse (descending). It was a good thing I did because I've recently joined a front porch band that has a gig upcoming at the local market and I'm having to play songs that the usual Blues scale and root notes just don't seem to fit so I've been a bit lost i.e. with songs like Budapest by George Ezra. I started plugging in and chaining together licks from breathing pattern triplets and all of a sudden discovered a new level of dexterity and adaptability with unfamiliar song modes and genres. One simple trick eh? Works great!

Jason. I have soooo many videos/ " Free Fridays " that are favorites. Not just for the learnings of music you provide, but also for your amazing insights; and ;commentaries; and feelings of music and the musicians' making the music. There is so much I could give you a standing ovation of appreciation for. So to that end I want to say a thankyou, and a standing ovation for your outstanding "Paul Butterfield Parts 1 & 2" videos. It's just so outstanding that you highlighted the awesome, Paul Butterfield, and some of his groundbreaking music, and playing techniques. These two videos have really become part of my all time favorites, and on the same favorites list as your " Pat Ramsey" series. Imho, Paul Butterfield cut his own path through the forest of music. He bequeathed to us the listeners' a wealth of music that can't be overlooked or lost in the dusts of time. Possibly he was the author of jazz, blues, and rock fusion on harmonica, and in his music. Similar to the great Ginger Baker on drums.This is only a guess on my part. But that's a feeling I get when listening to " Butter" and his band(s). So it's extremely kool of you Jason to make these videos on " Butter." As a fan of you and Butterfield, 3 cheers to you for bringing him front and centre, and into the spotlight where he justly deserves to be. It's soo kool when you do a series focusing on a specific muscian. So much learning, so enjoyable. ❤. Thanks Jason for being you and what you do. 😻.

Mr.harmonica guy! Please help. Many people mention things like “on the 4 chord” . Could you explain these numbered chords so that a beginner like me could understand what they are?

Good thing is doing same chromatic movement to each note of the triad. For G7 chord it is F F# G, A Bb B, C Db D, for C7 chord it is Bb B C, D Eb (!!!) E, F F# G, for D7 chord it is C Db D, E F F#, G Ab (!!!) A, all twelve notes of the scale are here

I have another complaint for most blues harmonica players. Playing 5, 9 draw or 2 draw double bend over V chord. It doesn’t sound really good for me. In the key of G on chord D7 you need F#. F is ok just as passing tone.

I love landing on 6 draw on root chord in the second position as a long note sometimes. Yes, it kinda spicy. It is 9th step and gives you feel of 9th chord like T-Bone Walker. If you think modal way it is good idea to play F major pentatonic over G7 chord. Wailing it too deep is definitely out of key, but some scoop is ok for me.

Hi Jason, Just checking in. In 2nd position the draw 6 sounds cool if you're doing that 1,6,2,5 Ragtime pattern anyway no big thing. Great lesson. Hope to smoke that cigar with you back in sweet crazy New Orleans some day. Be safe out there.
